- Frame: Extruded Aluminum Posts And Top/Bottom Rails. Wall Thickness And Alloy (6063-T6 Standard) Determine Load Capacity.
- Infill: Aluminum Pickets (Most Common), Aluminum Perforated Panels, Cable Infill, Laser-Cut Decorative Panels, Or Glass.
- Finish: Mill, Anodized, Powder Coat, Or Kynar 500. Kynar Is The Only Coating Rated For 20+ Years In Coastal.
- Mounting: Core-Drilled, Surface-Mounted, Or Fascia-Mounted. Each Has Different Load Paths And Engineering.

- Shop Drawings: Sealed By A Florida PE. Includes Wind Load, Anchor Schedule, Picket Spacing, And Finish Spec.
- Material Buyout: Aluminum Extrusion Cut To Length. Custom Profiles Take 4-6 Weeks Extra.
- Shop Fab: Cut, Notch, Drill, Weld Or Mechanical Fasten, Deburr, Prep For Finish.
- Finishing: Powder Coat In-House Or Sub. Kynar Requires Coil-Coated Extrusion Or A Specialized Applicator.
- Install: Anchor Layout, Post Set, Rail Fit, Picket Install, Final Torque, Punch.

- Mill: Raw Aluminum Look. Cheapest. Will Oxidize.
- Anodized: Clear, Bronze, Or Black. Durable, Uniform Color, No Chipping. Good For Modern Look.
- Powder Coat: Any Color. AAMA 2604 For Standard, AAMA 2605 For Premium 10-Year Warranty.
- Kynar 500 / PVDF: Best Coating. Coil-Applied. 20-Year Warranty. Required For High-End Coastal.
- Faux Wood Aluminum: Sublimated Wood-Grain Print On Aluminum. Looks Like Ipe Or Teak Without The Rot. Popular For South Florida Homes.
Code + HVHZ + NOA Basics
Aluminum Guardrails Above 30" Above Grade In HVHZ Zones Require Wind Engineering To FBC 2023. Picket Spacing Must Not Exceed 4" (Sphere Rule). Anchors To Concrete Or Structural Steel Require NOA Or PE Justification. Decorative Aluminum Infill (Perforated, Laser-Cut) Often Needs Its Own NOA Or Wind Certification.
5 Questions To Ask Any Fabricator
- Extrusion Wall Thickness? Should Be Called Out On Drawings. Thicker = Stronger = More Cost.
- Finish Spec With Warranty? AAMA 2604 Or 2605 For Powder. 20-Year For Kynar.
- Alloy And Temper? 6063-T6 Standard. 6061 For Higher Load. If They Don't Know, They Are Reselling.
- Are Welds Ground Smooth And Powder-Coated After? Or Left Raw Under Paint? Big Longevity Difference.
- Who Installs? In-House Field Crew Or Subbed To A Handyman? Ask To See Their COI.
